The Point Of A Surf Rashguard

By Lila Barry

A surf rashguard is needed for people who are doing a lot of surfing or body boarding for long periods. This is necessary because one finds that you develop a rash from paddling, and this is created from rubbing against your surfboard. However, it can also keep you warm. This is why it is worn with other water sports.

There are divers who wear this over their wetsuit as well as snorkelers. You get these vests in different qualities. Some are thinner than others. Surfers in warmer waters will only need a very thin vest, where as someone in an ocean where it is much colder will where something that is thicker. However, someone like this maybe sufficient with just a wetsuit.

The friction that it creates when you rub your arms against the board will make your arms go red. This is if you have no protection. It may help if you have a wetsuit, but not all surfers want this because in a place like Hawaii, for example, the waters are a lot warmer and you don't need all of that extra heat.

If you were to watch a competition, you would have noticed surfers wearing vests like these so that judges can identify them. There are usually commentators at these events and they will often name them by the color the rash guard. They will say, something like surfer in red or surfer in yellow, instead of their name, which can be complex.

These vests come in all sorts of colors and that is useful for younger surfers because if your child is just learning to surf it can be nerve wracking. You need to know where your son or daughter is all the time. You can identify them by looking out for the bright yellow neon vest that you have bought for them at the local surf shop.

You can also have these custom made. You may not think of doing this, but a surf school or a surf shop will definitely do this. If you have a surf school then you will also want to keep an eye out for everyone that you are teaching. If you lose sight of anyone you could also start to panic. You will also want something bright in a case like this.

The cost does come into play, like everything else. Surfing is not an expensive sport. However, initially you may find that expenses do add up. Once you have got the board and the wetsuit, you will find that things will settle down. You won't need one of these vests too often, but some surfers get a couple of them.

A surf rashguard is an essential item, and one that will prevent you from getting a rash, so it really something that you want to invest in. You need to look at the washing instructions because if you put this in a machine, you will find that it will probably shrink, so you need to just hang it up until it is dry.
