Lose Weight This Week: Here's How!

By Celynn Erasmus

Sometimes losing weight can seem like the hardest thing in the world. You start out motivated and ready to conquer the world, but fear and confusion can put a damper on that feeling pretty fast. How do people stay motivated to lose weight and stay thin? Which methods do they use to accomplish this?

Draw up detailed goals to make losing weight easier. Have you calculated how much weight you want to lose? What is your overall goal for weight loss? Are you losing weight so that you can buy the new clothing styles in trimmer sizes, or do you really want to feel better in your own clothing that has become too tight and restrictive? Are you in need of a better figure and a bit more energy?

Charting your progress can be a great way to remind yourself of the results you're getting, and stay motivated. You should try writing down everything you eat in a diary. Keep a running tally on your daily food intake to maintain success in your caloric allotment. Keep your weekly weight losses or gains in this journal, as well. You should consider using a graph in your weight loss journal as they can be especially helpful!

When you are deciding what to eat, do not wait until you are famished. Being hungry while making food choices can be counterproductive. However, if you are in a situation where you have to make food choices while you are hungry, try to make good choices. The best way to avoid this is to make food decisions ahead of time by planning what you are going to eat and to have healthy snacks available. Try to pack your lunch rather than dining out. Home cooking not only benefits your checkbook, but it also allows you to eat things you want that are actually healthy for you.

The most effective way to lose weight is to combine a healthy diet with increased physical activity. While it is not necessary to exercise on a daily basis, you should do so several times per week. Make sure to avoid letting your workout routine get stale by constantly mixing things up and adding new exercises. Join a dance club or class, for example, if you already enjoy dancing.

Many know of it, but not many actually follow it. Make sure to remove all unhealthy foods from your entire kitchen. If they are not available, then you will not be able to give in to temptation. Replace the junk food with healthy snacks. Remember, if you do not have the choice to eat unhealthy foods then you cannot eat them.

One of the best things to help you stick to your weight loss routine is a good support system. Have your friends give you support and encouragement. When you feel ready to give up on your workouts, your friends can talk you into sticking with them. Your friends can help motivate you to get out of the house. You know you'd do the same if the tables were turned.
